New things: Fleet Foxes, Black Keys

The latest band all the kids are bloggin’ about is Seattle’s Fleet Foxes. An inspired mix of harmonies and layered sounds, it’s like the Shins fronted by My Morning Jacket’s Jim James. The band just released an EP of beauty, but they are already slated to release a full-length this summer. In pirate (yar!) circles, the title is Ragged Wood, but officially it is a self-titled disc. The LP is produced by fellow Seattle dude Phil Ek (Built to Spill).

Here are a couple of tracks from Fleet Foxes. Enjoy.

MP3 | Fleet Foxes :: English House (from the Sun Giant EP)

MP3 | Fleet Foxes :: TIger Mountain Peasant Song (from unreleased LP)

MP3 | Fleet Foxes :: White Winter Hymnal (from unreleased LP)

On another new music note, I’m digging the new disc by Akron, Ohio’s The Black Keys. I used to think of these white bluesmen as a White Stripes ripoff band, but their sound has continually evolved, and their latest effort, called Attack & Release (Nonesuch), is a killer. Blues licks, punchy drumming and whole lotta soul make this LP a winner.

Here are some samples:
